Help please, I'm retired and I'm struggling to get my head around the maths on my Salifert Test Kit readings.
At the colour change the syringe is showing 0.74 which equates to a value of:-
3.8 KH value in dKH
1.36 Alkalinity in meq / L
However the Brupaks web page gives:-
For CRS the alkalinity range is from 64 to 320
For DLS the calcium range is from 16 to 188
Unfortunately the SW Water Ltd's report won't give a total alkalinity figure. Before I invest in some additives, can anyone who has a Salifert Kit, give me the figures for CRS and DLS.
I'd very much appreciate any help, thanks.

Bertie

from the Meq/l you times that by 50 to convert into CaCo3. Not knowing the brupac's website I can't tell if that is the correct figure it's looking for??
Are they looking for "Alkalinity as CaCO3" or "Alkalinity as HCO3" or "Carbonate CO3"

Have you tried our calculator in the tabs on the top left??

Good god thats too much writing for this late into the keg!!! Will look tomorrow. But seriously havevyou looked into the forum calculator it works it all out for you.

Hi,
If your salifert reading was 0.74 or 1.49 meq x 50 makes your alkalinty74.5ppm, If you are making bitter and leaving 25ppm of alkalinty you should use 0.27 mls of CRS to bring down your alkalinty for brewing. So add this amount of CRS to all water used. Mineral additions of DLS are 1grm per litre of the brewlentgh so for a 23 litre brew 23 grms. 1 grm per litre of mash liquor mixed into the dry grains, and the rest in the boil. Job done.
Good luck

Great stuff fisherman, much appreciated I'll make a permanent note on the Salifert table. Yes you're right my intended style is bitter.
There is some useful info on the Water Authority report, which I can feed into the forum calculator and see what other additives I need.

I should have said 0.27 ml of CRS per litre of all water uased. So lets say total water used 35 litres 35 X 0.27 ml = 9ml of CRS.
