many many years ago I used to brew these kits, it was cheap beer but not very good. However we didn’t know about enhancers and proper additives, basically chucked a bag of sugar in .
does anyone brew these kits now and have any recommendations TIA 🙏

You won't lose much if you ferment them. Many of the older 1 can kits may have suffered from fermenting in the airing cupboard at 30 C plus and malt extract etc as the additional fermentables makes a difference.
 
35 years or more when I made them, yes airing cupboard and adding plain sugar didn’t help, adds nothing but ABV.
a 1.5kg LMEwould have made a lot of difference
Making them up to 4 gallons instead of 5 and only adding half a kilo of sugar made a huge difference to Tom Caxtons. Totally got rid of the `twang'.
