Im just about to rack off 5 gal of dark beer. Very dark/treacle brown sugar and black malt stuff!!
It started at 1042 and is currently 1002. I`m just wondering about fining it once it is racked off! Two question really then...Will there be enough sugar to create a secondary fermentation after fining. And the second is how long should I leave it after fining as I wont be able to see any clarity! :thumb:  Thanks anyone.

If it's a dark beer and you won't be able to see the clarity then what are you expecting to gain with finings?

The idea is to fine as much suspended particles/proteins as possible. My real objective is to have as little sediment at the bottom of the bottles which looks bad.

I fined my batch of dark black malt/treacle beer, you can see the clarity if you hold a pint up to a strong light - it's a sort of really deep red colour. :drink:

As for sugar, I'd suggest priming the bottles - I put half a teaspoon in each bottle, and the carbonation is just about right after two months. I'd imagine it would be a bit flat if you don't, especially with a FG of 1002.
