Tipple is used by the big boys as well as a few Micros.
It is a fairly new strain in terms of malts AFAIAA, they used it where I used to work, & I have been using it a lot recently, (because I can buy it locally at £13 for 25kg).
My old work found it created a lot of extract problems, (very variable) & also caused a lot of protein haze issues.
I find it creates a very meaty crud in my mash tun and underback as well as a very thick scum on the copper in the first 1/4 of the boil, (its very bad for scum, very much like boiling a ham shank).
It does make good beer though.
If I could get Crisps Pale Malt, at the same price I can Buy Bairds Tipple, I would but the Crisps Pale every day over the Tipple, Crisps is a far superior product.
As for Maris otter, I have noticed no difference to any of my beers, since switching to plain old House Pale Malt, & think its not worth the premium price expected.
