So far I've only followed tried and tested recipes but going to get another brew on tomorrow and was going to brew this recipe I came up with any suggestions I'm open too.

4kg MO
100g wheat malt
75g crystal

90 min boil
25g Chinook 12.5% aa

30 min
25g Chinook

15 min
25g Chinook and Irish moss

0 main
25g Chinook
 
Was going to go for simple smash with a little wheat for head retention but noticed I only had 75g of crystal left so chucked that in too .
 
May I ask what MO is ? Marris Otter ?

What's the wheat for ? What style are you trying to achieve? (or is it a brew on a whim ?)

You'll be something around 4.5% Alcohol.. Hops at 90mins, will that be first wort hopping ?
 
Isn't 4kg of MO fairly obviously Maris Otter? As for 90min hops... I'd hazard a guess that was hops in the boil at 90mins.

Now now Jonny , i do understand your thoughts here but we all have to learn one way or another . :nono: ;)
 
Looks a decent recipe. I've done similar with Chinook and it drinks very well. I only made 20l so got about 1051 OG. I always say..........."I'd shift some of the early hops to the end.." ...must stop repeating myself. :D Saving 20g for dry hopping might be my choice, but that's just my taste. :drink:

Hello Mate and welcome,
Wheat malt is added to a recipe (usually about 5%) of the total grain bill to aid head retention without making the beer cloudy. head retention is where you get the lacing down a glass of beer as you drink it.

I know what you can use wheat for. But for better clarity of the final product a Cara Pils would probably be better. YMMV.
 
nothing to do with the fact I don't yet have a wort chiller
I didn't use my chiller on my last brew and it's still just as cloudy as all my other brews :D .

Wondering if it makes any difference?
