I did a coopera IPA kit about two weeks ago. 4 days or so ago I tested the gravity and noticed it was very cloudy still. SG was 1.010. Also it tasted a bit odd to me. I've done another test and the SH is the same and it's still cloudy and still tastes and smells odd. It tastes fruity and not really like beer at all. I've been quite successful with my last two and can't figure out what I may have done wrong.

Is this beyond recovery? Does it sound like an infection?

Your beer is no where near conditioned yet.
Under no circumstances throw it away. Unconditioned beer smells and tastes awful.
You will know if it has a infection later rather than sooner.

if it has got down to 1.010 then its doing fine, aslong as you have sanitised the bucket then leave it alone for 2 weeks, the more you keep going in to test the gravity then the more chance of you introducing an infection. ive still got cloudy beers after 6 weeks in the bottle and they are still drinkable. have patience young monkey,

Ok thanks. I've figured out it smells and tastes a bit like bananas with a hint of beer.

I've only done a Wherry and Ruby Red so far, both of which tastes nice as soon as they'd finished fermenting which is why I think it's gone.

yeah it will be fine mate. how did you get on with the ruby red? was it the st peters one aye? ive brewed it aswell, for a top end kit i didnt think it was anything special and at double the price of a standard coopers kit i probably wouldnt be in a rush to brew it again, or i would go for the milestone raspberry beer kit.u got any other kits lined up?

Right. The IPA still tastes a bit funny but not as bad as it did and it's still cloudy.

Is it worth all the hassle of bottling?

The Ruby Red was the St Peters. I found a bottle in my local off license and I must say mine was better. Better gas, head and taste. Lovely.

Get it bottled mate, i'm sure it'll come good if it's left long enough

it may have been a bit warm during the first stage of fermentation, which would give it that extra fruity/banana taste. this doesn't mean the batch is spoiled and giving it time will most likely right many of the wrongs.
