Well I'm in York for a few days with the Mrs and little one but iv got the feeling that I'm going to be stuck waiting outside shops with the little one while the Mrs shops. so is there any good places for me to to get half pint to help pass the time  . Already been in the evil eye and the ale shop a few door down walked out with 6 different porters :drink: . I like a nice pint and a cheap but good meal . I'm sure there is a few nice places about . So any ideas ??

I'm not an afternoon tea man but told the other half we would go to bettys for a treat

York is FULL of great pubs. The maltings is a must. The York brewery tour is good value, spent about 1/2 chatting in the bar with the head brewer after.

Don't think I would get away with brewery tour some how. But I will look out for the maltings :)

Send the wife and little one for afternoon tea and you go on the tour

+1 for the brewery tour, which I've done. The brewery also has 3 pubs on the town centre to check out the beers, though the brewery, now owned by a Lancashire firm I think! (and it's bar) is within the walls anyway.

Just had a look on the map and I'm staying about about a 5 mins walk from the brewery :thumb:

The Lelland Cellars is a nice place for a spot of lunch. It's this pub which is pretty much entirely underground.. They did dead nice food when we were there in 2010...

My 1 barrel brewery (Four Thorns) is in York just near the university, always good for a visit and a cheeky pint. Best pub in York......House of Trembling Madness on Stonegate has to be one of my top 3

This'll take me back to my student year.
The House of Trembling Madness - the bottle shop you mentioned - has a pub on the top floor, it is amazing, the beer isn't cheap because it's mostly unusual stuff, but the food is cheap and fantastic.
The York Tap in the train station has a fabulous range of beers and usually has something for a reasonable price
The Maltings - One of my favourite pubs in York, sadly was too far to use as a local for me
Pivni - Another expensive but unusual beer pub, well worth a visit
The York Brewery Bar - Alright if you like their beers (bit hit and miss for me) - Also has the brewery tour
The Handsome Cab - Sam Smith's for when you notice you're skint from being in Pivni
Red Lion - Nice characterful place nice beers
The Old White Swan - See above, except it's open till midnight.
There;s a short list to get going with.

thanks for the ideas guys. sady i didnt make it to brewery but i did try a few ales from a few bars. miles of walking with a bad hip, 3 sh*t nights sleep(not the best mattress) and a 3 year old and a 6 month preg mrs i was happy with a few bottles back at the hotel(not from the bar)

It's a brewery pub and I can't remember which brewery, I can ask one of my old Uni mates if you want, can even probably find out what the pint was.

It's a nicholsons pub but I can't seem to find the name of the pint :wha:

I've asked my mates in the York uni Real Ale Soc, should find out within a day or so, after they have had the arduous effort of finding out, poor sods

Thank you. It's going to be sods laws that it's only a cask and i can't get it my way
