Thermometer reccomendations

What would you recommend for an instant-read waterproof LCD thermometer available in the UK? The Comark KM-14 looks ok (as seen in some of Northern Brewer's Youtube videos). I bought a cheapie meat thermometer of Ebay but it's so slow as to be useless (and doesn't like steam). I'm not looking for a wifi device, just a clear display and possibly a calibration facility.

I bought this one from inkbird quite recently and find it very good. Gives quick reading and waterproof (tho not tested)

I have an original thermopen and it's never failed me yet. I got mine cheap because it's pink!

I'm trying to decide between the inkbird listed above @25.99 and the thermopen classic which is on offer at amazon delivered @ 39.99 (https://www.amazon.co.uk/SuperFast-Thermapen-Professional-Thermometer-Sherbert/dp/B076DGSTQB) & i hoped this thread would solve my problem :)

I've read the thermopen is pretty much the gold standard for thermometers - is it work the extra 14 quid over the inkbird?

I'd probably be more interested in accuracy rather than features.

If it's pure accuracy then thermapen is accurate within 0.4' and the inkbird 1.0'

The thermapen also has a quicker read and looks like the ink bird readout is only in whole degrees.

Not sure if that is worth the extra money to you.

I've gone for a Thermopen Classic - 36 quid is the cheapest ive ever seen them so couldnt turn it down.
Happy days - just need an empty fermenter now to test it.

Nice! Is the probe and cable submersible? I've spotted a few thermometers I like the look of but it only ever seen to be the probe that is waterproof.

I called the office because I wanted a submersible probe and cable and they told me that they were. The case is water resistant and designed for wet environments. I have done two brews so far dangling it into the mash with a lid on, so pretty wet and had no issue, though not actually deliberately submerged the cable yet. It is pretty handy having the suckers on so the meter itself can be stuck to the outside of the mash tun, but the cable is quite long so it could reach elsewhere.
There is a magnet mount that comes with it which I thought would be great for sticking to the inside of my metal mash kettle but I cannot figure how to fix it to the cable tbh.

Reactivating a thread from 2 years ago after seeing @The-Engineer-That-Brews multiple probes for use inside the mash. Building a custom temperature monitoring kit is a bit out of my league but I have been looking for a probe which is waterproof and can stand up to the hot mash and preferably in the boil. I've struggled with my heat resistant inkbird probes since while the probe is waterproof, the cable is heat resistant but not waterproof. Has anyone found the trifecta of heatproof probe, heatproof cable, and waterproof cable? Was the one that @Galena found waterproof to submersion?

Hi Anna! For ref, I use digital temperature probes of this type... they are epoxy sealed into little seamless stainless steel tubes and I've never had any problems with waterproofing even after repeatedly boiling them ;-)

They need a little box to talk to - but that can be very cheap - I'll PM you about this, if that's ok?

No, but THIS ONE from the same company is, slightly different specs, I went for more accuracy at the time though I probably didn't need it. Good company too. Mine failed and they just took my word for it and sent me a new one.
