The youth of today.

It is a general mix of society I'm afraid. Seeing the images from parks and beaches strewn with litter and other dumped stuff is a disgrace. It is rightly headline news but litter and flytipping generally goes on and it is relentless. The amount of stuff I see down country lanes is getting worse and so is the audacity of people who do it. It's no longer just quiet country lanes. There is a road by me with a small cemetery on it and at some time mid Saturday morning a few weeks ago someone dumped an load of old wood next to the entrance to the cemetery. That's taking the p###.

Anyway, back onto youths. The recreational ground and cricket club near to me is a lovely place but started to get besieged with about 30 t##ts a few weeks ago turning up mid afternoon one day after the next in cars, music blasting, drinking, laughing gas, and making a general nuisance, staying to late at night and racing the cars up and down the narrow driveway and leaving a load of litter etc. The police got called out the one night and recovered a stolen car and a legged a few of them.

The local parish council which are all volunteers by the way decided to start locking the driveway gate for cars from 2pm after that event to nip it in the bud which sounds logical to me short term pain for long term gain. Pity is though so many people sat behind their keyboards were slating the council for reasons like "I can't get there until after 4pm to walk my dog", "You councillors took the easy option and why don't you fine these people and stop penalising residents" and all that nonsense. Strange thing is the place is still open, it just means you have to park on the road outside and walk an extra 25m. Idiots.

I'm glad to say though that the place has returned to a nice little free place that everyone can enjoy.

Two house bricks wouldn‘t help with the immediate problem, but it could stop them impregnating someone else, thus easing the problem in the next generation.

I would like to point out that not all of today's youth are lazy, feckless wasters.

Some of them are highly motivated, naive woke morons with a huge sense of entitlement and absolutely no self awareness.

And that, my friends, should win me the 'reactionary old fart of the year', award at the very least. :laugh8:

Two house bricks?

Reminds me of the old joke :

Doesn't it hurt?...
... Only if you trap your thumb!

Its not just the illegal camping. It’s the behaviour that goes with the illegal camping. A few minutes of senseless fun results in impacts that will take years to heal. Refused to leave after very polite requests. Fined.

These campers all decided to break down the handrails and use them to light fires. Let’s just leave it all for someone else to pick up after us. Thanks to Steve from
@LakesRangers
for doing another tidy up job.

Wow, but only ten patients and they were inhaling hundreds a week! But I have learnt something new.

As with most things, it's a small minority that spoil it for the rest of us. The vast majority of kids are fine.

I disagree. When I was younger, there used to be a fly on the wall documentary series where honest, upstanding businessmen used to try and, quite legitimately, gain a commercial advantage by dressing up as a ghost or similar, and every week they would have got away with it if it wasn't for them pesky kids!

Kids who drove around in a van covered in graffiti? You make your own mind up.

It is easy to blame the youth of today and it is a cop out. It is the parents you need to take a look at. Children generally take the lead from their parents and behave in the same manner. You can tell a hell of a lot about someone just by looking at how their children behave.

A well known barrister here in Melbourne, his two sons got arrested for beating a police commisioner, and when I say beating it was really bad. I am sure their father didn't go around beating anyone. Spare the rod and spoil the child. My father tells an amazing story of getting the birch on the Isle of Man, never put a foot out of place after that.

That is shocking Foxy but I would still question the upbringing of those kids if they are resorting to that kind of stuff. Is that something they have seen in the family home?? I would really be questioning myself if my own children had done that. Something massively wrong with anyone's style of parenting if you cannot get your child to behave without hitting them. Got to raise an eyebrow at the suggestion you need to be hitting your kids to avoid them hitting other people. asad.

Lots of couples 'fall pregnant' and take little or no interest in educating their offspring. They fob them off with consoles, phones and computers. They believe that the schools are responsible for teaching them to read, speak and use the toilet!

The youth have always been youth and will push past the boundaries of what is socially acceptable. The issue is where the older generations have set those social boundaries. Bigoted, uncaring and no social compass, the "I'm alright Jack F you" Thatcher generation have a lot to answer for with the society they created.
Not sure if it was youth, could be any one....anyway when I go fishing I also tidy up the swim and again before I leave even if it someone left the rubbish. One bin bag will tidy up that lot, better than complaining about it. It is has always been so and is not Thatcher legacy (that is typical socialist claptrap), rubbish and fly tipping goes way back before that. Politics on thread,no no

If a child gets to school at, what, 5-years-old and has never seen a book? Is that acceptable? The child should know what the alphabet is by then. But I am not a parent I'm basing this on my own upbringing.
