Is that to prevent you from trying to carry it full with the handle?

I always lift mine using the lip around the top anyway, wouldn't trust the handle.

Use Brupaks anti-foam to avoid boil overs and allow you to get more in your kettle.

This stuff is incredible and allows you to have boiling wort within 1cm of the rim of the kettle with no threat of a boilover.
