I was surprised when i heard he was on his own i assumed he would have some sort of security with him, maybe he told them to bugger off.



The Duke of Edinburgh has been involved in a car crash, Buckingham Palace has said.

Prince Philip, 97, was not injured in the accident, which happened close to the Queen's Sandringham estate in Norfolk shortly before 15:00 GMT.

Buckingham Palace said the crash involved another vehicle and police attended the scene.

The duke was driving a Range Rover and was pulling out of a driveway onto the A149 when the accident happened.

According to eyewitnesses, the car that the duke was driving overturned.

The eyewitnesses said they helped the duke out of the vehicle. He was conscious but "very, very shocked" and shaken, they added.

The BBC's royal correspondent Nicholas Witchell added that two people in the other vehicle - a saloon car - were treated for minor injuries, according to reports from Norfolk Police.

Apparently he is very independent and unless he is medically unfit he is entitled to drive, we recently had a debate about compulsory competency tests and I think they should be brought in at 70, I drive every day in the lakes and believe me the majority of bad drivers are old not boy racers as the media would have us all believe.

I was listening to a radio phone-in programme one day where the topic was "Traffic Jams".

A swath of callers did nothing but complain about the problems on the roads of the UK and how they had been delayed due to all of the traffic stopping them from getting to where they needed to go.

Not one of them suggested that they could have left home earlier and/or allowed more time for the journey so it was like a breath of fresh air when a caller came on and said he drove all over the UK on all days of the week and at all times of the day and night without a problem.

I believe that elderly drivers are safer than younger people in the 17 to 25 age group but I also agree with Chippy as I also see the reason some elderly people are worse is the old Eyesight issue (Sorry I did not see you - not a excuse, at least you can hear the boy racers coming). I can generally see the ones with bad eyesight issues as they crawl around at below the speed limit as they are not alert enough to react quickly enough due to not being able to see the road and read it properly. Sorry another contradictory RANT

Above the law? Apparently, in this sad country of ours, we have a whole family of parasites that consider abiding by the law or observing decent standards, below their dignity!

On the BBC we are told that the Norfolk Police have "spoken" to Prince Philip after seeing a picture of him "... driving without a seatbelt, 48 hours after being involved in a crash near Sandringham."

"A spokeswoman (for Norfolk Police) said 'suitable words of advice have been given to the driver'."

I suggest that we all remember that phrase so that it we EVER get caught out not wearing our seatbelts we tell the Police that we have taken their "words of advice" to heart and therefore expect no further action!

Oh, as a further BTW they same report says "... the duke has not apologised." to the lass that broke her wrist.

"Why should he?" I thought. "He's obviously immune from prosecution and way too important to worry about how his crass and stupid actions can affect the peasants."

The French had it right back in 1789 and we should've joined in!

Images published on Saturday appeared to show Prince Philip, wearing dark glasses and no seat-belt, back behind the wheel of a new Freelander on the Queen's Sandringham estate.

Having looked at a map of Sandringham estate i assume its a private road.

You may not be aware that folks over 60 are entitled to a free eye test and some qualify for financial assistance for purchasing specs. However there is no legal requirement to take the test. There is however a legal requirement for you to be able to fulfill the eyesight requirements for driving when you get behind the wheel. That may mean you have to wear specs for driving, and if you do need specs for driving you should be wearing them whilst driving. If you are not you are committing an offence. But irrespective of all that there are still silly t**ts out there who should be wearing the right specs for driving especially at night but aren't, whatever their age.
