Well after only starting at Christmas when the mrs bought me my first kit, fv and pressure barrel.( I bet she wished she hadnt!!)
I have brewed a few kits, 2 beerworks, 2 brewferm, a coopers stout tweak( which even the mrs likes), a coopers ipa tweak, 4 lots of wow and 2 turbo ciders. Also built a brew fridge with controller. Yet to use that.
The dark side has now called! I couldn't help it, or that's what I told her.
Took the plunge and ordered the peco set up off HBC with the double IPA kit, but while there I thought better get some more bits. A US-05 yeast fell in the trolley, then a APA kit fell in, But then I needed some grains to go with that. So some Chateau pale ale malt fell in, and while I was at it I thought I had better get some hops for a Weissbier I am planning.
Problem is wheres it all going to go. The dining room is pretty full. Luckily when visiting the parents at the weekend, my dad has decided to get a new shed. So a nice metal 10 ft by 6 ft shed is on its way to ours soon.:thumb:

:) when are you doing your first brew on it ? I remember my first All grain, was cold outside and I was in the garage with the door open, the smells are amazing :) The postman turned up mid brew and we got cahtting about beer for a good 15 minutes, I'm sure he was after some of my brew :)

Cheers and enjoy
Jay :)

Good work hoptoit!
I've just got the same kit, and I've really chuffed with it. The possibilities compared to kits are endless, I hardly know where to begin!

Did you get the hop filter?

Only done the one brew on my HBC kit but others have said the filter is essential. (Sorry is that leads to another purchase).

My 3 custom grain kits arrived from geterbrewed today - trying to figure out if I can bottle the HBC double ipa while mashing the greg hughes stout...

I couldn't get on with the hop filter. It rapidly gets clogged up with hops. I use muslin hop bags which get reused, and then filter the boiled wort through voile material into the fv. Keeps trub to a minimum.

Good luck with your first brew :thumb: you really won't regret it and will be amazed in the quality of the resulting beer.

I think I'm going to do my own hop filter out of some stainless hose braid. Best thing is I went in the kitchen drawer and there's a brand new ikea splatter guard. Fits perfectly for a false bottom to stop the bag getting burnt.
As for first brew I think it will be next weekend. Got some bottling of turbo cider to do this weekend, but who knows.

I read, on here I think, that attaching it at an angle helped. Did my first brew with the knuckle level to the tap opening and had no problems. It was an all leaf hop schedule - pellet for the next 3...

Measure boiler dead space in this configuration as 2.5 litres.

I got myself this setup around two months ago with the APA kit included, five weeks in the bottle now and its very nice indeed, easily my best brew so far.

I'm now a little addidcted to this hobby and have since brewed a dry stout, california common, fiery ginger beer and some supermarket juice wines with a fullers esb clone planned for the weekend too.

Thing is, im still drinking commercial beers to collect more bottles so haven't saved a penny.

I'm now tempted by the shiny single vessel builds I've seen on here for my next project (wife does not yet know the planned wood fired oven is on hold).

All in the space of 8 weeks or so....
