I mentioned yesterday I didnt think deaths in care homes were being counted. Here's piece from the Guardian about it

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...k-care-home-deaths-not-added-to-official-toll
"Hundreds of people are dying in care homes from confirmed or suspected coronavirus without yet being officially counted, the Guardian has learned.

More than 120 residents of the UK’s largest charitable provider of care homes are thought to have died from the virus in the last three weeks, while another network of care homes is reported to have recorded 88 deaths.

'We haven't had time to grieve': care homes struggle as Covid-19 deaths rise

Care England, the industry body, estimated that the death toll is likely to be close to 1,000, despite the only available official figure for care home fatalities being dramatically lower. The Office for National Statistics said this week that 20 people died in care homes across the whole of England and Wales in the week to 27 March.

The gulf in the figures has prompted warnings that ministers are underestimating the impact of Covid-19 on society’s most frail, and are failing to sufficiently help besieged care homes and workers.

Other homes have reported dozens of deaths as the virus sweeps through vulnerable populations looked after by care workers who say they still lack adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) and testing to curb its spread."

Irishwizard, I don't know what you've been drinking, but any chance of a bottle swap ;)

It used to be horrendous in S.London for getting about but the (new - relative to the other trains) London Overground has really helped. All the proffessionals are on that now all the poor people are on the bus

Oh sure, I have friends who really benefited from Overground in Sydenham/Crystal Palace, particularly when their work moved to Docklands - it seems to have been a relatively quiet success compared to eg Crossrail. There's still big holes though - folk along the river from Battersea to Barnes-ish still seem to prefer buses to SWT, although the Northern Line extension will help there.

I am elated to confirm that there is now enough capacity to test *every NHS Staff Member with COVID-19 symptoms and/or their Household Contacts* should they wish - and all NHS systems across England are in the process of standing up arrangements to facilitate this to happen

Visits to parks increased last weekend compared to two weeks ago, according to activity data from Google.

Overall, its UK report suggests far fewer people have been going out compared to life before lockdown, although visits to parks increased during last weekend's warm weather.

The tech giant has released its second set of reports looking at activity in 131 countries during the pandemic.

There was also an increase in use of transport hubs and food stores.

Google has been collecting location data from people who have opted into Location History tracking. It is using this to produce reports that show how busy areas are compared to a period earlier in the year.

The data only shows people's activity in aggregate and not specific individuals' behaviours. But it does offer breakdowns for specific areas - in the case of the UK, on a county-by-county basis.

Data for two weeks ago had suggested visits to places such as parks, public beaches and gardens were down 52% compared to life before lockdown.

But last weekend, the figure was 29%.

There had been concerns that sunny weather would tempt people out, and a number of parks were closed last weekend.

One wonders how google will be monetising such data
