well done to all, tried most of the winning brews, of course they were the first to go, and thought they were all worthy. Jons fixed recipe was very good

Thanks Rick but I have to say I don't think anyone was more surprised than me. It is a great feeling when people other than your friends say your beer is good. I just had a little luck and the Judge liked my style of brewing could have been a different judge and a different result. jon474's entry for the fixed brew and best in show was a real treat how he got those aromas and the taste from the hops was pure magic made my entry seem bland in comparison well done Jon. Well done to all

Well done to all the Prize winners, worthy Prize winners all of them, There were some great beers in the competition, Well done Mick (Snail) The look on your face when you realised you'd won was class :thumb: great beer too.

Shroppies Winning stout was lovely, smooth and well constructed.

The American Pale was a winner with me, as was the Marmites pale Ales,

Alemans Lager was spot on, As was Aleds Wheatbeer.

& the Brewery beer fixed recipe was a great beer too,

There were some very happy people at the sampling, & some very rough feeling one's too (Me)
 to all

well done all, looks a real success - any chance of the recipes with the tasting notes received from the judges? :thumb:

Congratulations to all who won!

Unfortunately I couldn't make it along but I did enter a brew. Is it possible to get the judges' tasting notes?

I would suggest you send a PM to Dunfie, as I would expect he's probably got any of the unclaimed comments cards.

I have the tasting notes and will provide the information for you :thumb:

Thanks snail for your kind words. I am still in a bit of a state of shock really. I am pleased that it worked and that, as you said, people other than friends judged it as acceptable.

As someone says here, I too thought that the American Pale class was great. That has given me some ideas...I'm just not sure about simcoe though...

I would like to see us do a Spring Thing 2012 "It's the end of the world, as we know it" high gravity beer. Minimum OG of 1085. Style and recipe of the brewer's choice (should then fit in with lancsteve's open style beer class idea). Make it by a certain date - evidence of how to prove the date to be thought about - and let it mature for say ten months. Present it to the judges in 1/2 or 1/3 pint bottles? Any takers?

Anyway, thanks again for a great weekend. I haven't really recovered yet.

Take care
Jon

I can really see the Judges Queueing up to Judge that one Not!!!!!! :D They will think your trying to kill them off if they got 20odd entries with a minimum 1085og, I would be well up for brewing something for it though if it did come to fruition :thumb:

Well done By the way and Nice to meet you.

Chuffed I won the wheatbeer category :thumb: . Although Dunfie still hasnt told me how many other entrants there were :wha: :wha:
Pity I couldnt make it in the end...I had a pass then I didnt due to the better half's work commitments :(
It was nothing to do with the fact I used speiss to prime the weissbier...first time for me...and the potential antipersonnel grenades they could have been if warmed up too much :?
Congrats to all the winners and the great beers I never got to taste.

The strong ale cat at last years CBA champs took the longest to judge...although the judges looked okay...it must have been a real slog  ! If it happens at the spring thing next year I would expect there to be loads of entries too. I think there will have to split the beers up and judge the entries in 2 halves

2 others - 3 in total...! (Wish I;d spotted event in advance to get one or two in that category!). Did you use WLP351 in yours Aled?

Some EXCELLENT brews there, and well deserved prize winners.

I think you need to own up and give credit where its due Aled. I have heard from a reliable source that you sourced your hops from a kind local brewer who helped you out in your hour of need (and he also sent you away with a couple of beers).
