My local Tesco is far too expensive for homebrew gear.

Yes, that may be true... But, if you don't have a lhbs, then Tesco is a nice option for some people...

My closest to a lhbs is a chemists who stock a few kits (about 5-10 mins away), and other bits and pieces. Granted, they have quite a few things in, and can order kits as wanted. But, price wise, they are about the same as tesco or more expensive. I'd prefer to use them, as they're local. But, sometimes, when i can't be bothered to pop in to order a kit, I can just log on to tesco online and order to store, sometimes a little cheaper. Other than that, the next closest is about 40 mins or more away.

For those who don't have any local, or like my next local, Tesco is the next best thing...

wilkinsons do pretty much all the youngs kit..but as was just said..they probably couldnt tell you how to make a sandwich let alone beer !!

There are online Homebrew shops . . . I ordered recently from The Homebrew Shop placed ordered on Thursday afternoon , with me on Friday . . . Screw Toscos!! . . . and all other major retailers

Luckily I have matchless home brew on my doorstep and also a Wilkinsons store plus Wilkinsonplus online deliver free for pick up at your local store.

I then have a couple of good online stores to use so hopefully Tesco wont get my Home brew spend!

Yes, but ordering a single can of homebrew soon gets expensive when you add on the usually cheapest £5 delivery charge ;) Deliver to store much cheaper...

I just tried our sponsor 'The Home Brew Company' online, as when I went to my LHBS they had nothing I needed (low stock) and if you order a couple of brews and yeasts like I did the delivery charge was quite good.

Also would like to add, asked if the courier company could leave it in a safe place and they did, so not carded etc etc

Colin.

I'm prepared to pay a little bit extra for delivery if it supports small businesses. My wife owns a flower shop, but now you can by flowers everywhere, Next, M&S, Tesco, Sainsburys etc. If we don't support the the small guys we'll be swamped by red bricked, pointy terracotta roofed, supermarkets full of plebs who don't know diddly squat.

Sorry for the rant, I've had a bad day.

Edit: Apologies to Mark. Wasn't having a dig at you personally, times are tough and we all need to save some cash, but times are tough for the small fry as well.

I take no offence to any comment made ! I can see were you are coming from regarding lhbs but mine is a bit crap and I get better advice on here! I will probably order my kits online buying enough to get free delivery but I may still get my bottles from tescos. Sorry for stirring up a hornets nest

TBH you're not going to get those Coopers bottles at a better price anywhere. I took delivery of 6 boxes the other week for my ciders and ginger beer.

I'm proper lucky though - I've got a great little LHBS close to home who always has a great stock of kits and and sundries and I'm 10 minutes drive to The Malt Miller when I'm at work.

If you are going to mail order, I'm in the "Support the Sponsors" camp. I haven't mail ordered from any of them but if the rest are half ways as helpful and friendly as Rob @ TMM then you are in safe hands.

Tesco? Great for tinned beans and nappies...

We went mad last month and ordered 5 kits. Get a bit more value for you're money postage wise that way.

Just out of interest i rang my LHBS and they sell the self same thing at £11.99

Quite a saveing at trashco's :hmm:

I buy all my kit at my local even though i pay around £2 extra per kit just to show suport but when you're buying a few boxes it could add up to a fair few pennies.

Andy

Since I put this post on tesco direct sold out of bottles and have now restocked and put price up to £10 a rise of 25% !

They probably marked the price up wrong and only noticed when they looked at takings for that product.

Oh no, I recently got 2 boxes of bottles from tesco when I found they were the cheapest by far. Thought it was a good find, posting it here has ruined it ;)
