What are your thoughts on the aquarium type heating tubes? I remember my dad having a glass tube heater from Boots years ago.
i use an aquarium heater with an LED strip on the outside. I have verified the temp indicated on the strip with a thermometer so I am happy with that. Been brewing kits this way for years.

Fills me with dread that those defective Inkbird ITC308 are still recommended for controlling cooling compressors (fridges, etc). See:

Issue with Inkbird ITC308S - anyone else had this?

The ITC308 has an unstable temperature measure which could trash cooling compressors. The STC1000 (or the Inkbird badged version; ITC-1000?) seems to be the better bet.

I get you want a stable temperature reading in general, but shouldn't setting the delay resolve that concern?

No! You'll need to read the link. And Inkbird don't want to address the issue. It's all in our imaginations apparently.

Thanks all for your advice and suggestions. One final (maybe) question, where should I put the temp probe, top mid or bottom of the bucket?

Have an Inkbird for fermentation control of my fridge, but just purchased one of these to control a heat belt around my ale fermentation bucket. A standard STC1000 but all ready packaged ready to go and significantly under cuts Inkbird price.

Elitech Pre-Wired Temperature... Elitech Pre-Wired Temperature Controller Thermostat 220V W/2 UK Sockets ATC-1550 Automatic Cooling Heating : Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

That elitech looks absolutely fab in terms of simplicity and ease of use. Very tempted by that.

Do those LCD strips work on plastic FV containers? I bought a brewing one, as it went down to 1'c (think the aquarium ones were 2'c increments), but it seems to be generally useless

Now use a cheap digital one, attached to the side of the FV

On a side note to FV temps - do folks generally raise the temp slightly, towards the end of fermentation (say around 2 weeks), and if so by how many 'C?

My current brew recently kicked back into life when the FV temp nudged to 23'C one day, so it led me to wondering how high/long I would raise temps for to ensure complete fermentation....

It outputs temperature. You can get ubidots and other tools to use that to in turn trigger threshold alarms that turn on/off a smart plug.
I wrote this a while ago... But now use Home Assistant myself as I've got it controlling my lights etc.

This looks great and I’m going to give it a go. I’ve got a spare smart plug (tp-link kasa) and Google home device, so thanks for sharing!
