There are plenty of studies to show that money doesnt make you happy. There was a story in the sunday papers about some rich bloke who commited suicide on his estate with a shot gun. Think I'd rather be happy in my small flat in the Hamlet than considering topping myself on a massive estate

As an aside, an odd thing about this story is that it was wondering if the bloke had a licence for his shot gun. As if that matters now

I don't think you need a licence to shoot one, just to keep one, locked up on your premises. Perhaps he shot himself legally with his friends gun..

When there is a big rollover the reward/risk ratio improves so it is a 'better bet'. But you could do better on the geegees and not lose much of your stake in tax and charity donations. A three-bet accumulator could win you a very tidy sum. There used to be a website that calculated the expected value per £1 bet but it seems to have demised. The odds of winning any big-prize lottery are so small they are similar to not playing!

The odds of winning it dont improve though (virtually nil) and as I say why would winning 25 mil be better than winning 2 mil for someone with no money? If you asked anyone in the queue at ASDA what they would buy with 25 mil it would probably be exactly the same stuff you could buy with 2 mill

The odds of winning it don't improve though
No, the odds don't improve but the outcome is a better risk - a better spend of your money.

You can improve your odds my trying to ensure that you don't share any win. As many people use birthdays and anniversaries to choose their lucky numbers, you are less likely to have to share a big win if you choose numbers over 31. And a combination like 32,33,34,35,36,37 is just as likely to win as any other - but fewer people will pick sequences.

I make £10 every week on lotteries - by not playing!

It makes you laugh when you ask people what they would spend a lottery win on...
The stupidest reply I ever heard was...a business!!

pay off the mortgage, pay off the family's mortgages, and/or alternatively go to vegas and put it on black and if that wins put it all on red, and if that wins, so be it. Money is not the answer but it helps, just do not let it define you

I think I would buy a bigger house then I could try making beer as well as wine with a new shiny all in one.

I think I would get a bigger house...nothing extravagant... something I could move my poly tunnel on and maybe a five acre lake.

Yes, a bigger, warmer house. A double garage, heated. And far from any neighbours who might annoy me. I'd like a lake or to be near a river or canal. A sea view would be nice too. A private train to the nearest airport. Such fun fantasising. £500,000 would do me.

In London you'd get a shed for that :laugh8:

I take it we're not having a forum whip round ?
