I recently received an email saying TT TV customers were doing to be charged £4 a month for content, boosts etc as i do not have any enabled but do use the YouView box they supplied a few years ago i assumed it would not effect me, it seems i was wrong so i will be doing as the customer below has done tomorrow and saving the transcript.

Customer - Confusion over £4 increase

I got the email, and thought I wasn’t meant to have any increase in cost for the duration on my contract, turns out this only applies to broadband cost not tv part, thought this was a bit sneaky so contacted customer services. Then found out I could opt out but keep my current tv package. 80 channels, PVR, on demand players. So turns out all good for me but I think it’s a bit underhand charging extra for services that don’t apply to me and putting the onus on me to opt out. And I think saying in the email you are free to opt out of TalkTalk TV at any time suggests you’re going to lose all your tv which isn’t the case. This will no doubt lead to people just sucking up the £4 increase. If anyone cares to disagree I have my customer service chat transcipt.

One of the OCE's comments at the TT community forum to a different customer asking basically the same question -

Hi

I can have the Fee removed for you. This actually encompasses all TalkTalk TV Services, with the option of flexible TV Boosts, in addition to TalkTalk on demand content and on the go access via the website and Mobile App. So the Fee does cover quite a few additional TV services.

If you do want the Fee not applied to you in February, I can process this for you, just need to confirm some security details first via a PM.

Thanks

Karl.

I gave up on TT last year when I discovered that my download speed could be increased by a factor of at least three just by tweaking something in my local sub-station.

TT told me that this was impossible without a major increase in £££'s so I moved to Vodaphone on a cheaper deal and so far I have no complaints.

TT phoned almost every day for the first couple of months after I binned them but their calls have tapered off just lately, after SWMBO started shouting at them!

Not a company I particularly like.

Oooh! I like that one!

It's almost as good as the one that starts "My Uncle is a Nigerian Prince ........ "

I cannot imagine any sane person divulging "security details" via a PM, so personally I would just move to another supplier.

I got scammed by them ages ago on a business phone package where they offered me three things capping call charges discount line rental and something else, my 1st bill didn't match what they offered. When I called them it turned out they should have offered me 1 of the 3 options not told me I got all 3 benefits, I threatened to report them to ofcom and never paid a single bill so it worked out in the end but I would never use them again.

I posted in Duttos thread at the time he left them that I have been with TT for more than 10 years and am happy with their service but making out customers will lose all their tv services if they do not pay this charge is just plain wrong and I feel sorry for the mods on the TT forum as they are going to be snowed under with requests to opt out.

10 minutes on TT live chat and i have opted out, no request to send the box back (as has been rumoured today) and my box will work as it did before i opted out, this is not going to do their already tarnished reputation any favours.

I still have my TT Modem in the garage and it's about six months since I kicked them into touch.

Somewhere in all the bumf that TT sent me there may be a clause that I have to pay for the Modem, if I don't return it.

I may be cynical but I just don't trust any big company!

I occasionally spend a bit of time in the community forum seeing what the latest beef is about and can honestly say I have never heard of any TT customer being charged for their modem once they have migrated,

Hi!
The Aged Parent has been with Talk Talk for several years. She recently signed up for Talk Talk TV and had to take the £4 boost; she cancelled the boost one month later without any problems.

I would advise contacting TT through live chat as i did as it looks like all TV box users are going to be opted in unless they opt out, better safe than sorry and it only takes a few minutes.
