Hi I have the coopers DIY beer fermentor the one with no airlock but a separate ring that allows the gas to escape. According to the instructions and craigtube you take it out about half way thru the brew but would it matter if I left it in?
I am loving homebrewing and have progressed onto 2 can kits how much would it roughly cost to goto a AG setup?

good question , you could go diy and get items for around £100/150 , while making the hop strainer etc etc or you could just buy the gear around £200/300 or go stainless steel etc from £200/600 ish , ingredients are cheaper even more so if you buy bulk 25kg bags etc £25/35 but you can get 5 brews from this , you won't be sorry if you like your beer

seeing as every other fermenting vessel for the last god knows how long doesnt allow you to remove the krausen ring then i'd say you're fairly safe to leave the removable collar in the coopers fermenting barrel with the krausen ring still attached

however, the whole point is you can remove the collar and remove the krausen ring easily in case any gets in the brew - seems silly not too imo and it's a lot easier to clean the collar after 4 or 5 days than after it's caked on for another 4 or 5 days

You can do either, i have the same FV and i take it off after the main fermentation has subsided but it would do no harm to leave it.
