It's horses for courses mate. When I made my ginger beer I just took a half pint and added teaspoons of candarel until it was about right for me and then scaled up for the rest of the batch (as it happened it was two teaspoons for me).
I made a 2 gallon batch of strawberry TC. I only had Splenda sweetener tablets and used 55 of them! It tasted nice, but after aging I don't know if it would be too sweet.
My advice is to add some, taste it, add some, taste it, etc. Make a note of how much you add so you can add more or less next time.
