Hi all.
So I know this is probably either a silly question or proper noob question but here goes.

I've read a few recipes and they have mentioned to keep them somewhere dark. Is there a reason for this or is it just the 'done thing'?

Is there any real down side to keeping it in sunlight?

Kind regards,
Mark.

Light, or more particularly the ultra violet part of the light spectrum, is supposed to 'skunk' beer i.e. change some of the hoppy chemicals in your beer from nice to nasty. So you avoid storing your beer in light, certainly direct sunlight which contains a lot of UV, although I've no idea how much UV can penetrate a brown glass bottle.

It also depends what you’re brewing... since you posted this in the ‘wine, cider, mead & kombucha’ forum it may not make apply to you, but as @terrym says, when brewing beer, UV light can react with hops to create off flavours
