Sugar question.

Is this a daft question?? I have just made Timmy Taylors Landlord. The recipe didnt show any sugar in the recipe. Why do some do and some dont?? :

Timothy Taylor don't advertise their recipe so people try to work it out. Some use sugar and some don't.
