I was wondering if you would be able to make a "substitute keg" out a fermentation bucket?

if you added a tap onto the bottom of the bucket (5 litre or even a 25 litre) could you then make sure that (there was no grommit holes in the lid) it was sealed tight, add in your brew, add in sugar to prime it. then pour out of the tap? would it still stay fizzy after the first pour? would it be able to withstand the pressure of having loads of CO2 build up in it for a while?

any thoughts or ideas please :)

Cheers

Andy

Wouldn't have thought it would hold any pressure at all. Meaning that if you're not continually going to be adding expensive CO2, it's going to draw-in air and spoil.

If your budget doesn't run to a pressure barrel, i suspect that you wouldn't have to lurk around a supermarket bottle bank for too long to acquire a set of bottles you could sterilise and crown cap.

i've got bottles and bottle caps. i was just thinking.. because it'll be airtight.. with no seal at the top.. and the tap will be closed.. surely that means it will be pressurised? as long as you close the tap after finishing with it (obviously).. it shouldn't be too bad... ?
