Just wondering if anyone else has any experience with this stuff? It's an 80% abv "rum". I brought a bottle back from a ski trip in Austria and only last night worked up the courage to try it.

It's borderline palatable at roughly a shot to 1l of coke. At this rate the bottle will last me the rest of my life!

I honestly couldn't give someone a neat shot of it as I'd be scared I'd kill them.

Any ideas for making it taste a little less explosive?

I barely remember that stuff, its Austrian meths. I drank a double neat as a teenager and remember being able to speak again over 5 mins later. I then met an Austrian student who told me its what the homeless drink there. I suggest using it to light fires. Great stuff.

It's as bad as Bunderburg (who on earth thought an Australian rum would be good?!!). As for Stroh, keep it for barbecues. Lighting them, not drinking whilst cooking...

To be honest guys I would normally use something a bit milder to light the barby.

I can imagine the Austrian homeless drinking it. After a double you could probably sleep naked on a park bench in January!

I did wonder when I bought it why they were giving away bright orange hats free with it. I now know it's to warn others away from anyone silly enough to try and drink it.

Lol, this brought a smile to my face. An acquaintance of mine who is well known in the "norn iron" music scene brought a hip flask of this stuff to a gig we where doing in a local club, one of the band members took a swig (as we all did) and about 4 or 5 minutes later he complained about the heat in the room we where in, it was pointed out to him that the stroh was "rocket fuel" and he said "nah (acting the big man) its this radiator i'm sitting on" it was then pointed out to him that the radiator wasn't on, he wasn't allowed to live that one down for quite a while.

There must be plenty more stories about this stuff. Does anyone know how its pronounced the guy I got a bottle from said it like stroth and some one else said it was strow wilt I thought just stro.

We used to call it 'struth', because that's what most people said after their first mouthful....

Try some of the rum punch recipes online, the Caribbean ones use white rum which again is very strong but the recipes are designed to hide the harsh taste of the rum in the punch.
