I made a batch of wow variant, to around 10.5 litres last week I racked into 2 litre water bottles and added 2 part finings. They have both now got a stringy looking sediment floating about in them. Any ideas if these will be ok?

Yep, sounds like the finings doing their job to me. Maybe give the container a sharp twist which will encourage it to the bottom, then just rack as normal.

Sounds like it's most probably the finings, unless the stringy bits are all throughout the wine. Does it still seem normally runny or is it thickening up and looking oily? Was everything properly cleaned and disinfected, and did you use Campden tablets when racking?

Winemaking problems link - take a look at Ropiness, bottom of the list.

To be honest it's cleared really well and doesn't look like its thickened any. I'm hoping it's just the finings. I'll give it a few more days and upload a photo if there no change.

I am having a similar sort of problem so I thought it would be relevant to add it here.

Made a WOW 2 days ago, and its starting to ferment properly now. There are thick clumps floating around in the demijohns, which I don't remember seeing last time I made some. They are rising and falling with fermentation.

I used not from concentrate 100% fruit juices and yeast nutrient. Is this normal? I have another wine brewing but that doesn't look like this. Thanks

Perfectly normal :thumb:

Some fruit juices have a higher pulp content than others, so you will get a layer of pulp on top of the froth for the first few days, then it settles back into the wine and starts getting carried around, rising with the bubbles and falling again. This is what has been termed the lava lamp effect.
