Hi,
I'm running out of space, particularly within the lagering end of my projects as I store all bottles upright.
If I lager and store with bottles upon their sides, will the yeast escape earlier (as it would have taken residence upon the side of the bottle)when I pour and spoil a clear beer as I've always believed? Any takers?

I think it best to store them upright otherwise you'll likely get sediment in your drink. Why not try it out on one to be sure?

Hmmmm never thought of storing beer horizontal, if they'd been stored for a long time and the sediment had 'set' then it shouldn't be a problem, think an experiment is needed with some bottled in clear bottles and see what happens, return to this thread in six months time :?:

all my beers are stored upright ....... until after consumed, then they are stored horizontal overnight, in the morning the results run clear and the solidified sediment is seperate

Oh well...thanks for the uptake...I guess I'll have to store my yogurt and milk outside with the wife :wha:

No way could I store my beer any other way than upright, I wouldn't even bother experimenting with a single bottle on it's side either :nono: that would be the waste of one bottle of the precious stuff IMO

Surprised anyone would advocate storing a bottle on it's side considering the sediment issue, it's a no brainer surely :wha: :wha: :wha: :wha:

I used to have many moons ago a shed with about 500 bottles of elderberry wine all stored on their sides for about 4 years before drinking. Quite a bit of sediment would drop out but I found that if you poured with the sediment uppermost not much was disturbed because quickly the sediment would not be covered in wine where as if it was the other way it would always be covered.

However in beer sediment should be at the bottom and bottles stored up right that is the law.
