Hey All,
I only have a 3 gallon stock pot so I can never boil the full 5 gallon batches. Instead I tend to add another 2 gallon of water to my 5 gallon fermenting bin. My question is how will this effect my ale? Is it best to boil the full 5 gallon (invest in a 5 gallon stock pot) I do have 2 x 1 gallon stock pots so maybe I can divide it all between 3 stock pots? Im brewing up a black IPA this weekend :thumb:

Thanks

I just got myself a 50l stockpot which is roughly 11 gallons, intending BIAB for 5g batches. Recommend you get a pot a bit larger than the boil volume so there's a safety margin in case of boil overs, also would allow a more vigorous boil which is recommended in some books (like "Extreme Brewing").

So expensive though, Im after a stainless steel one.. £200 for a 30 litre stockpot ?! Aluminium half the price but I dont trust it..
Where did you buy and how much?

Thanks

No way....You can get a 50 liter SS pot of the German Ebay for a lot less. Will try to find the link.. :thumb:

You can email the firm catering-portal and deal with them direct, I ordered my thermopot to make a mash tun from them.

Reduced size boil means you don't get optimum hop utilisation. Just add extra hops compared to the recipe and top up to full brew volume in the FV. I did it this way till I finally bought a 50 litre pot from the Malt Miller...
