As I understand it anything that comes into contact with the wort after the boil needs to be clean. Now tell me if I'm over thinking this or in danger of disappearing up my own backside, but is it necessary to sterilise the run-off taps from the boiler (I've a plastic boiler with plastic tap) after the boil and before the cooled wort is dropped into a FV, and after fermentation before kegging/bottling? If so, how?

Thanks

Good question, mine are copper so get very hot in the boil and I presume they sterilize themselves. I however sterilize my taps before transferring beer out of Primary to secondary and also when bottling. I usuall stick a jug with sterilising fluid in and/or use the steam cleaner.

I am sure someone far more knowledgeable and anally retentive than me will be along soon to advise.

I've never done it.

However, you could just run a couple of jug fulls of the boiling (or near boiling) wort through.

I wonderd about this at first, but now dont bother to pre sanitise, as long as tha tap is clean of any deposits, I figure that the heat transfer from the boiling wort will kill any nasties, & I have never had any problems so far & I use plastic  of course if you use a run off tube from boiler tap to FV when the wort is cool after chilling as I do then you need to sanitise this & as said sanitise during any trasfer of beer from primary to secondary or bottling
