Sterilised but still smells?

Hi all,

I've done two brews so far (the second one was binned after 3 weeks stuck fermentation).

About to stick a Ritchies bitter on but despite sterilising my FV and barrel i can still smell brew. Is this normal or have i not used enough steriliser?

It's normal but it will be sterile. Bleach will get rid of the smell. Use un perfumed thin bleach diluted to instructions

I was going to post the exact same question...

At the weekend,I bottled my ginger beer kit. Cleaned it out and sterilized with bleach (thin bleach made up to about 25ml pretty gallon), and it when I used fv on Tuesday to brew, it still smelt strongly of ginger beer, even after sterilizing it again!

Hopefully, it just needs time to work smells out, but always can smell brew after waking/sterilizing... But this is strongest I smelt it...

Leave it open and exposed to the sun ( :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: ) That will sort any smell out . . . of course you do have to sanitise it again

Thanks for all the other replies gents. I'll stop worrying about it then if it's normal. I think it's probably something most newbies like myself would wonder about.
