Steeped oats?

Yeah... That's going to add a bunch of starch assuming it even leaches into the water effectively. I was wondering if they were using a saison/Brett blend as then the starch would be handy but they're not.
 
I've never just steeped oats.

I use the cheapest oats available, toast them to give them that extra bit of flavour and then add them to the mash with the rest of the grain bill.. athumb..
 
Standby for some experiment results on this one - I've got a brew on the go now in which I did some oat steepage.

All I can say so far is that it was cloudy as heck to start with but the majority of it precipitated out pretty quickly. I was expecting it to effect the OG but it doesn't seem to have done so.

Bottling due the end of next week...
 
I think maybe it's just a sloppy AG conversion - the only other steeping grain in crystal (with no diastatic power) so it's not a partial mash.
