I've had a crazy idea for a sparging sprinkler.

you know those stainless round (top hung) really wide diameter shower heads? the fittings on those fit standard piping so i'm thinking of getting one and mounting it to the lid of the thermobox due to arrive shortly.

does anyone see a problem in using one of these as opposed to a spinny or spray sparger?

Volume,

They are designed to be used with a shower pump that can provide 3bar  thats a lot of water to shift

all you will get is a dribble out of the middle, and trust me from the amount of hotels I have stayed in with these type heads, low pressure = dribble from the middle.

right then.. that ideas binned then

i might go for a small watering can rose then... seen them cheap in stainless around the net

You could always use it upside down resting slightly above the mash BS then flow rate isn't an issue.
I used a method similar to this using a copper manifold with lots of holes drilled in the top of it and it worked as really well.

The reasons for sprinkling water on top of a mash is, not to disturb the grain bed, and to distribute the water evenly.

There are many ways to skin a cat :thumb:
