I lost my rag with the plastic one when it bent trying to stir a mash.
I bought the metal Padle type and I'm really pleased with it.

Thanks all. I like the look of the wooden ones, but I don't have a Khans (?) near me, and the one bigcol posted is a bit rich for me. Stainless it is!

I just use a couple of feet long aluminium strip, inch wide, couple of mm thick, which I bought in B&Q years ago and had kicking about my shed. Can't remember how much it cost bit probably a fiver or thereabouts. Can't remember what I bought it for either... now why did I just walk upstairs?

This is just small talk:oops:

OT: is Wood preferable to SS?? I still use a large plastic but agree it can be annoying as it bends especially at the lower end of a big pot.

Also does a solid spoon or a paddle with sieve holes in make any odds??

I like wood because it wont scratch the bottom of my pot

I think holes are so you can break up any dough ball. I use a balloon whisk for that

I have the stainless which is handy for use in the kettle as well, I stick it in for last ten minutes of the boil so it's sterile for whirlpooling the cooled wort.

I think I may make a wood one though as the SS is a bit short for a deep, thick mash in my drinks cooler mash tun.
