Has anyone engineered anything to make the usual green 20xpint crates stackable, when filled with most 500ml bottles? Something that rises above the top of the average 500ml bottle and even an old amber pint bottle with a stone cap (about the tallest i can think I'll need) so the upper crate doesn't rest on the bottles?

If not, I will see what I can design!

I really like the pdf of a wooden design [Ed. - for a whole crate] that someone kindly linked into a recent post on here, but I just can't see me getting the wood cheap enough. If there was a really neat gizmo, easy to make, that made for a secure stack with standard plastic crates, it would be a good option.

Ok, I will have a go when poss. Don't anyone dare post a link to something similar for £2 on ebay once I've done it!

Really shouldn't be too hard to do...?

I see a wooden frame, the same size as the crates, holes one side for the nubbins on the bottom crate to go into and nubbins of some kind on the top to go into the holes in the top crate.

I must get round to this myself...

gaffer tape and offcuts of foam insulation board, Tape up collars to sit between crate top and bottom and use foam board thick enough to cater for the highest bottle top.

the foam board will allow u to sculpt/sand out a ridge/hollow to accommodate the crate lip.

a few weeks skip spotting or freecycle should supply foam board offcuts.

if your lucky enough to score larger bits you could drill bottleneck holes in a grid pattern in a crate sized board, any tall bottles in the crate will then hold the board in place..

Just lay a bit of cardboard on the top of the bottles, works for me, i stack em four high like this with no probs.

Bob
