Sorry guys, had a search but cannot find the right thread. Does anyone know the spec for perforated Ss for a false bottom?

Also, does anyone know the optimal height it can be sited for best results. I have a 30l thermo
 
304 stainless with 2mm holes.
Mine sits on dome nuts so it's only about 1cm off the bottom.
 
I started out with a coolbox, on switching to the thermobox / FB my efficiency remained much the same (mid 70's) since using CRS I'm now at 80-83%.
 
Just got a price from a local steel supplier of £70 for a 340mm disc. That's before drilling the holes. I think ill have to rethink this.
 
Got mine from the nice folk at Hop and Grape. Give them a call - they are flexible on size and accoutrements (legs, handles, etc). Works great!

Like you, I started out looking at doing my own. But I quickly gave up...

Regarding height - I made my thermo-pot bottom draining (like in Vossy's How-To) and so I just sit the false-bottom right as low as it will go (no legs fitted). In practice this means it sits on beer-line trim around the edge. It works really well (nothing stuck so far) and there is no dead-space.
 
Hi rob, not all thermoboxes are the same so my advice to you is to measure the base where you want the fb to sit....and that may not be the same as the base if measuring above, as there's a curve to the pot, Make a template if unsure. Also take into account you may want to use beer line around the fb to take up any un eveness around the tb's circumference, in which case take a least 1mm of the radius or 2mm of the diameter. John @ Hop and Grape is really helpful though be wary of using the full sized legs if using a recirc system. IME the smaller the gap between fb and base the more stable the fb and be sure to take into account the dead space under the fb when making mash liquor calcs :thumb:
