Sorry for the double posting, but so far no luck getting anyone's opinion in the equipment section and I thought this might catch someone in the know's eye here. Here goes:

I've been searching for a new 1" SS braid for my mash tun, which has turned into quite an ordeal. Steel in most hoses with a braid I've come across has been galvanized and I take it thus unsuitable for brewing purposes? Or am I mistaken? 1/2" braids would be a bit easier to come by, but I'd rather go for 1".

I just came across this place which sells hoses that have a SS braid with teflon. Would this be a safe pick? The company's web pages are mainly in Finnish so posting a link here would be of little use, I suppose, but the hose was listed in this section:" In product groups - Chemical hoses , Teflon hoses / Convoluted teflon hoses (PTFE)".

I have no idea about teflon coated hoses, but I would assume as they rub together the teflon would wear off.

Is their any particular reason you are heading down that route rather than the more standard copper pipe manifolds, or false bottom designs that most other people seem to use.

Hmm, no good then I suppose... To be honest with you Steve, the main reason for me trying to a score a ss braid is that I'm not really a hands on type of bloke. Cut off both ends, seal the other one, clamp to tap, done... Easy that. The braid has also worked well for my first few brews. I don't necessarily need a manifold since I batch sparge - I did actually check out how much the copper bits would cost when I was designing my mash tun and was a bit surprised at how expensive that was. Furthermore, I'd have to get some tools to deal with copper and it seems like a hassle. That said, I've been spending so much time hunting for a braid that maybe this route would be the smaller of two evils after all. Hey, was there someone on this forum who's making manifolds/screens?

I used John Guest speedfit as my mashtun manifold, elbows and pipe.

They're food safe and ok for the mash temps then?
