I am happy to use tap water for my first brew as we drink it every day and it fine to taste. but would it have any impact on the beer? will the wort get contaminated easily? What do you think?

British tap water is very clean, so no worries there - the only reason not to is if there's a huge chloriney taste to it (mine is, if it's unfiltered), and even then half a crushed campden tablet dissolved in 5G of water should dissipate the chlorine.
