They are discussing (on radio) making an antidote for spice because so many people are becoming addicts and are getting into problems after taking it meaning paramedics and ambulances time is being wasted, a bloke has just rang in and said instead of making an antidote to a synthetic drug why not legalise cannabis and regulate it problem solved, someone pointed out it leads to them taking other things but the expert said that is because they buy from dealers who try to push harder drugs if it was regulated it would not happen.

I am all for this it has been done in other countries why not here.

.

Mrs MQ (who works for a prisoner re-habilitation charity) says it's also a big problem in prisons.

Spice was the name of the drug in Dune wasn't it?

if they legalised it people would grow their own I think, just like homebrewers brew their own.

There will always be people growing their own as there is now but they wouldnt be making money from it and it would also hurt the dealers which has got to be a good thing.

As long as it's well regulated I don't have a problem.

Having said that, the stench coming in your windows all day every day is horrible (but I'm sure it's rare to live next door to people who are wake and bakers, never mind 2 sets of people as happened to me), and stoners are horrendously boring (and this coming from a home brewer).

No, cannabis should not be legalised - there's enough drunks on the road without potentially adding to the carnage by making access to another drug easy. As for Spice, I tried it many years ago via an advert in Viz! I foolishly thought it would help me sleep after the night shifts I was doing at the time. That stuff is bad s***.

Spice and cannabis are different things.

I have seen the effects of prolonged cannabis use so it's a no to me.

People try harder drugs for an array of reasons not just because of s pushy dealer. This may be a local theme but most cannabis dealers don't directly deal herion for example.

What would people want regulating?

The same kind of regulation drink, **** and now vapes have - only sold in licensed shops, to over 18s, at no more than a specific strength of THC etc etc

No good that has done though. All that would put the price up. Cannabis farms would become commercial and price would rocket compared to current price and users would go back to the black market

In countries where it is legal do they have this problem because the guy on the radio (the so called expert) said its the way forward and it has worked in other countries.

Perhaps things get legalised because it can't be beaten....like Christianity was by the Romans.
Yes Myqul I think the drug in Dune was called spice....perhaps they should dish out some of those black rubber suits to go with it then they can drink their own piss like in the film..

Having watched my brother go totally of the rails with drink and drugs, mostly cannabis, I would have the whole lot burned with naplam.

Only saving grace is that at the ripe age of 35 he is now about to graduate as a substance abuse councillor.

Our mother had years of hell, maybe one day he will see the pain it caused.

Drug policy should be evidence-based and from an objective standpoint I can't see how anyone could justify keeping cannabis illegal without also advocating for banning alcohol. Both are drugs, both destroy the lives of a minority of people who use them, both are completely safe for most people, and both will continue to be consumed whether they are illegal or not. The difference being that with alcohol the damage done is mitigated by a significant tax revenue while for cannabis the proceeds go entirely to some local hippy in the best case, or in the worse case to violent criminal gangs that operate illegal grow-houses staffed by modern day slaves, more often than not Vietnamese children trafficked into the UK. The government chooses to treat adults like children who aren't responsible enough to make their own life choices, at the same time handing a portion of our economy to criminals, for no reason other than political expediency. To me it is a no-brainer. Don't even get me started on the chasm separating the anecdotes my white friends have told me about their drug-related run ins with the police, compared to my black and Asian friends.

That doesn't seem to be happening in Colorado etc.

And **** are one of the highest taxed "drugs" in the country - there are black market **** but it tends to be "a bloke down the pub" that sells them rather than drug dealers, and it's a tiny minority of smokers who buy them - in general they still pay the big money in the shops.

I suspect that the various synthetic cannaboids would not exist is cannabis was legal. The reason they are so attractive in prisons is they take up far less space to smuggle. One issue is that "spice" isn't a single drug, but could be many from a vast family, with quite different effects and also dosage!

I've never got the argument about cannabis being a gateway drug, most people will try alcohol before they try it, does that make alcohol the gateway?

That said evangelist pot smokers do my nut when they claim it has no harmful effects. They're are plenty, but in balance I still think society would be better of with it legal.

A large part of the issue with cannabis is there are different types, when I was young it was all resin. This had added stuff in to make it go further. Now I believe its all super skunk that completely wipes you out and is what is causing the mental issues, its cannabis x1000% stronger. "Normal" cannabis is not like that and doesn't have the issues but as its not as strong its difficult to come by, you should be able to grow it at home xD

I know this isn't the reason to legalise it but it's getting a bit of a joke now that it is illegal because it's everywhere. Nobody even seems to give a sh*t about smoking in in public anymore. I know in my younger days when I dabbled I certainly wouldn't be wandering down a busy High Street smoking a reefer. Back then most of it was imported to so a bit harder to come by, now there's so much of it being grown in the UK how can the police possibly stay on top of it.

Legalise it, regulate it, tax it, and let the police get on with dealing with some proper crimes.

I'm not sure I'd smoke it now anyway legal or not, the thought of trying to deal with my kids whilst high does not appeal, it's bad enough when I had a beer or two too many when they get up at 6:30 in the morning.
