I've got a decent amount of birthday money. I’ll probably buy clothes, and maybe some decent earphones but I’m always open to new homebrew equipment.

Are there any essentials I don’t have?

I really fancy a conical or SS fermenter but I’m limited by the height of the door on my brew cupboard so the Fermentasaurus and FastFerment are too tall and the SS Brewtech within my price range doesn’t have the option to harvest yeast.

As well as a ss fermentor get a tall brew fridge..
Nae room for a fridge. Only place I have to ferment is my brew cupboard (cupboard under the stairs) and the door is only 95cm (or 105cm I can’t remember which) high.

Looks like the Fermentasaurus is 95.5cm tall, but that's with an airlock. Sure it won't fit? ;)

Yeah I think it was 95Cm because I worked out it was just too tall. Although I guess I could take the airlock out and put it in once the FV is in situ. Will investigate further tonight

If the door frame is just the limiting factor and there's then further headroom once it's through the door, could you not just tilt things slightly to get it in there?

Alternative to an airlock might be to go for a blow-off?

Yeah once it’s in there’s about 5’ of headroom it’s just that the door is low.

89cm :(

Tank height is only 64cm though so I could put the frame in first then carry the fermenter through and put it in the frame.

I’m liking the look of the stainless steel growler / small keg setups. There is a thread going on at the moment. Nice idea for something a bit more treat-like?

I already have a 5L minikeg/easykeg chiller/dispenser and don’t have enough fridge space for the mini-cornet/growlers.

So the 95.5cm measurement is with the airlock on top. Take that off and tilt to get through the door (it won't be by much to lose the 1-2cm you need) and you're there.

I'm slightly confused as to why you have such a midget door though, especially if there's plenty of headroom above it!

Hi!
The height of the Fermentasaurus out of the frame from the base of the collection bottle to the top of the lid is 80.4 cm. In the frame that's 85.6cm. There should be enough room for a blow-off tube, especially if you used a 90° elbow fitting.
If the collection bottle lies over the space in front of the compressor "shelf", you may be able to rig up an asymmetrical frame that will grab a few extra centimetres.

Perfect thanks!

I also heard back from Malt Miller and they gave me a height of 87cm without airlock so between your post and their email it looks like it’s a goer. If I can’t find anywhere with it in stock at the same price as MM I’ll pre-order from them over the weekend (they have expected stock date of 17Sept). I assume because of the material used I shouldn’t use my brewbelt? I’ll get hold of a cheap greenhouse heater instead.

Your best option is to either get or build a variable spunding valve and get the pressure kit with it so you can pressure fill your kegs with no co2 exposure.

I got my FS from the MM and they are by far the most reliable people for stock and sending it out. And your right, no few belt for this. You have to be careful you don’t get a negative pressure and suck it inside out. A brew belt would just melt it.

Using a stainless disconnect (90 degree) with a spunding valve keeps the height a few cm lower than the airlock.
I wouldn't like moving a full FS without the frame though - the plastic is very thin & flexible
