I think you are missing the point - most people seeing it pass would think it was a modern BMW as they look at the badge or grill or both not the car, having driven a 1 series and a top spec Focus i can honestly say i would buy the focus as for me the badge in the middle of the steering wheel means nothing and anyone judging a persons importance by that badge needs to take their head for a s**t.

For years they insisted on rear wheel drive and a 50/50 weight split to making the ultimate driving machine (sic) i notice they didn't make such claims when they brought out this front wheel drive monstrosity in 2016 and see they are planning to bring out 6 more front wheel drive models (if they haven't already)

I am not anti BMW and if people buy the car because it is a nice car fair play to them its the tosses that think it is important what badge their car wears that boil my p**s.

I think this has taken the thread completely track so let's just leave it there. What was being pointed out originally was the fact that a lot of money was paid for a car after it was said he was so broke that him and a friend had to take part in illegal activity

Has anyone got a car that reads road signs? Does it work? Is it reliable? What can it do apart from speed limits?

Most of the systems are around 85% accurate. The same camera can also generally do lane departure warning / lane keep assist, auto high beam, and emergency braking (some systems also need a radar for this).

I'm a fully payed up member of the "knob German car" drivers club. I do ~75 miles a day, and for me I'm happy to pay the (not actually that big) premium for the additional level of isolation and comfort, and also the ability to easily move around a the car that is full of kayakers and has boats on the roof. By contrast I don't tend to spend lots of money on nights out, or the latest techy gadgets, as I'd rather have somewhere nice to sit for 1.5-2 hours every day.
You pay your money you take your choice...

At what point do all these 'aids' actually be come distractions? In my early car driving days, there was no sat nav, Bluetooth or touch screen etc.. whilst driving along I could change the radio channel or volume etc without even having to look away because there were physical buttons to press. Now I have a car with a touch screen that does everything and I find it very hard to use whilst driving, yes I can change volume on my steering wheel but try changing radio station now with DAB, because you have to go through a whole menu system to get to the station you want.

I fully agree about touch screens they’re an absolute pain.
Surely though, the guy walking ahead of the vehicle with a red flag was a distraction as well

This BMW thing.... not too long ago they were a not-too-common sight on the road. They had an air of exclusivity and were something to aspire to. Now it seems that everyone has 'aspired' cos they're as common as Fiestas.... same goes for Audi. I hope the owners are happy and feel suitably smug, but they certainly don't stand out from the crowd, if that's what their motive for purchase was. In fact, they make up a sufficiently sizeable proportion of it that they are quite invisible. I ain't jealous or knocking these cars, never been in one, let alone bought one or thought about buying one - just have no appeal to me. Meanwhile something has wound me up big this morning, gonna get my motabike out to vent some wrath. And it's so old and rare and mean and fast and loud and beautiful and turns more heads than any Beemer it's parked next to. What speed limits?
