Hi all,

I have currently and just recently counted last night , 190 bottles of fully conditioned beer but I am currently keeping them in the loft.

The reason for this is that I have my kids in the spare rooms .

will my beer be safe in the loft over the coming summer months or should I put the beer outside in the garden covered up with plastic boxes.

Thnks in advance

My loft gets very, very hot when the sun shines and cold at night. I'd be wary of storing there. Maybe yours dosen't get hot. If you must store there, how about insulation?

No way would I put it in my loft - it gets roasting up there. Can't you chuck all the pots and pans and plates and other junk outta the kitchen cupboards and put it there? Failing that, rip up a few floorboards and utilise the vast, cool space being wasted beneath your feet. That's what I've done recently, accessed by a discreet spot under the stairs not in the middle of the lounge! Works a treat, wish I'd have thought of it earlier.

If the kids object to being shoved into the loft, mini kegs might be something to think about. you can get 10 bottles worth of beer in the footprint of 4. They can be also dotted discreetly (or not so discreetly if SWMBO doesnt mind) about the house. I've got mine on top of and in the bookshelf, in front of the books

The loft must be the worst place ever for storing beers in the summer.
Outside in plastic boxes would have to be well shaded.

They stack well too.

Just one point about crates I've found, a lot of them aren't built for storing or moving heavy loads like beer and will crack. If you're going to get them, get sturdy (and probably more expensive) ones, it's worth it in the long run.

I have 24 crates and if push comes to shove will make a bed out of them. I am lucky to have a garage though. Would be better outside in the shade covered in a tarp than in the attic surely.

Ye - the attic/loft should be used for the water tank/****/old sepia family photos and that guitar with at least one string missing/nesting housemartins and nuthin' else. Besides, if madness got the better of someone contemplating such a stunt, how would they actually do it without physical injury and/or exhaustion?

My loft is full of old stuff and dead wasps. It's like an oven in the summer and a freezer in the winter. Have you got space for a shed? Or even a lean to on the shady side of the house?

What about something like this.....

I've got something similar but half the height which we inherited when we moved in. It's got space for all my kit and about 100 litres of beer.

Separately I just found cupboard space that fits mini kegs that I didn't know was free. Best thing is it's too high for my wife to reach - winner!
