So I bottled my first brew of The Craft Range IPA just 10 days ago but tonight decided to open one up and taste just to see, now I know it's early but the beer smells great and carbonated really well but has a slight sour taste..

So could it be contaminated or is there a chance the taste can change in the bottle over the next couple weeks??

Just if it's contaminated I'll throw the bottles out and start on my next brew and hopefully not make the same mistake again..

Thanks

At 10 days it has hardly had the time to carbonate properly so you can ignore just about any taste or aroma this side of pure vinegar.

I recommend that you LEAVE IT ALONE in a cool and dark place to condition for AT LEAST another two weeks before trying another bottle.

I agree that you need to start your next brew though! :thumb:

Until you reach "critical mass" (i.e. enough beer carbonated and conditioned on the shelf to allow the rest the same opportunity) you will forever be "trying" brews that haven't had a chance to deliver of their best.

Be patient! :thumb:

I agree with dutto you need to be building a varied stock of the beers you like otherwise you will never be drinking beer at its best , Beer needs to condition and in the case of stouts , porters and lager age a decent time. Your talking months here , do not believe the alchemy on the kit instructions its bollocks on 99% of them. You need to be following the 2+2+2+10 method then you will consistently be drinking great beer. But you need to abstain from trying to drink your brew before its ready and start to build your stock . I have over 600 bottles ready to drink at any one time,

Yea I kinda gathered that I needed to leave it another few weeks alright but I was told ( by a mate ) to taste it as the taste won't change in the bottle much... When I got the sour taste I got a little shock but feel a little better now..

Fingers crossed and onto the next brew. 👌🏼

The tastes will change drastically in the bottle , is your mate a brewer ??? or a general know all lol  if you just starting depending on the type of beer you like have a go at the Woodfords kits. Dont throw out your bottles sterilise and reuse glass bottles are best for beer.

I'm on the last few of a stout I made last June. .I too can confirm waiting a while is worth it....as is getting multiple brews on the go or ,depending how much you like to drink, you will find yourself buying beer!

Cheers

I only started all this business last September and I'm still buying beer to prevent me drinking what I've made.
Helps in building the empty bottle stock pile too :thumb:

What's 2+2+2+10? I know 2+2+2 but never heard of the +10 before.
