Anyone watching?
I don't normally watch rugby but as its about to kick off and the fire is roaring i thought why not the the wine clearing can wait until tomorrow.

Half time.
I don't understand he rules but with 63% possession how are England losing.

I'm watching from the other side of the world. athumb..
One of my fondest rugby memories is walking down to Murrayfield on a drizzly Edinburgh night with friendly Scots offering me whiskey. One of the great stadiums.

(wasn't v England naturally, was Scotland v All Blacks)...

Last scrum of the game will be a big one. Time's up and Scotland ahead by 3...

Well i enjoyed that more than i thought i would even though we lost.

1984 was last time Scotland won the cup so well done to them.

I haven't a clue as i said don't follow rugby the lass interviewing the Scottish player after the game said 1984 was last time Scotland won the cup i assumed she knew what she was talking about.

Hmm, are you forgetting last year?

I have rewound and her exact words were -
That's history you retain the Calcutta cup for the first-time since 1984

I guess that's 1 - 0 to the forum pedant  wink...

I'd already watched Ireland/Wales and was suffering a bit from second game syndrome; the TV was on, but I wasn't giving it my full attention. But Scotland scored a good try, and after that, England seemed to play OK, and had most of the ball. Couple of kicks didn't quite go to hand, but if you don't turn pressure into points, you are always vulnerable. I imagined the script would be, Scotland leading into the last minutes, but are then heart-broken as England snatch it at the death! But it didn't turn out like that!

As a neutral observer (honest 🙂) I could see that happening too...
And apart from the natural imartial bloke wanting the underdog to win, the cynical play by the England hooker knocking that ball out (and then feigning injury FFS 🤦‍♂️) firmly swung my support behind the Scots...

Ireland game too early to watch here, around 3am but will watch highlights.

Ireland were pretty good all round. Looked pretty fluent, moved the ball around well, looked like they knew what they were doing.

I might add, to be fair, that I am a rugby league fan first and foremost, but I do follow RU too. My take so far would be:

Ireland: Look pretty strong all round. Appear to have two good 9s. I'm less struck than many about the God-like genius of Sexton, but he did fine today. The new boy did himself no harm either.

Wales: What to say? They didn't do great with the set-pieces, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it; I'd have to have it to people most expert than me to explain exactly what else wasn't right. They have the guy who is apparently the best strike weapon in the comp, but he spent his afternoon defending.

Scotland: They have some very skilful and creative players, who can always pull a try out of the bag, but I can't hep but feel that they need a slice of good fortune to go their way to prosper. They don't look like a side that can dominate a match.

England: I dunno. As I said upthread, I didn't watch this game as closely, but I don't think they looked too far off. I like Smith a lot (as any league fan would), and think he went pretty well. But pressure didn't turn into points. I like Simmonds a lot too, and he seemed to go pretty well, and Curry looked energetic. Again, I hope someone more expert than me can shed further light!
