Hey guys, I've just done a gravity reading of my extract lager brew and I noticed that the lager is very murky and that there was a lot of small pieces of hop floating in the lager. it has been fermenting at bang on 11 degrees for 8 days now but does it need a lot more time or is something wrong?

yes its been in the fermenting bucket at 11 degrees C for 8 days. I cannot see through it atall its very murky, is there a way of straining out the little hop pieces rather than have them at the bottom of my bottles when it comes to bottling? The brew sees too early to bottle yet, so will it be ok to leave it for another week or so?

i dont usually use bottles but from what i have read on here if you are going to bottle it then there will be some yeast going in to the bottle with usually about half a tea spoon of sugar this will allow it to carbonate in the bottle
you need to keep the bottles in a warmish place for a week then put them somewhere cold for a month or two
just be carfull when pouring them to leave the sediment in the bottom

i thought that 11 deg was a bit to cool for the yeast but as i say i normally do bitters and they are at about 18-20 ish
hope this helps

Thanks for the advice, the yeast is a lager yeast so 11 degrees is optimum for it. I'm just really unsure how to strain the tiny pieces of hop still floating in the lager before I bottle it? Don't want pieces floating in my bottles! Lol any suggestions or tips for next time?

Alex
