Nearly finished the 150ltr new Oak Clad Boiler, so thought I would post a few pictures of the nearly finished pot.

why 2 taps

Good question, I`ve got one of those external filter things
HOP1_Disassembled.jpg
which I want to try out the 1.5" full bore butterfly valve shouldn't get blocked with hops/trub etc. BUT as a safety back up if it doesn't work too well I go back to using the 1/2 valve with a normal internal filter and just use the butterfly as part of the CIP.

It was easy to add the 2nd tap whilst building the thing an after fit would have been a nightmare.

And yes I like building things although that will stop once this brewery build is complete

Cheers

What type of pot is that?

Its a standard 150ltr brouwland flat bottom pot (eBay purchase), although the lid is off a Berglund 100ltr pot as it didn't come with a lid.

:thumb: Nope this is my 4th brewery build in the last 2&bit years so this is the accumulation of those builds into the final brewery, the only item I might ever replace would be the HTL to a larger volume but the lack of 150ltr size pots at a good price prevented me building one, hence 6kw of power in an 80ltr to speed things up whilst mashing.

The challenge for me normally is to build on an idea ie V1 and thermo pots = my fully concealed drainage pot, just natural evolution of an ideas, one of the reason for posting this pictures it might give rise to future ideas / better designs from others :?: :thumb:

Cheers

Wow that looks great, barneey. I'd love to wood-clad my vessels like that, but haven't-a-clue woodwork-wise. Maybe a 'How-To' is due for wood-cladding? :thumb:

I didnt take too many photo`s of this timber clad pot, but I did when I build the smaller 100ltr timber surround (still trying to think of a use for it at the moment) if the 80 thermo MT isnt big enough I may stick a 100ltr in the other Oak clad and use that, only trouble they are really only CIP as 32mm thick or 20mm thick Oak is rather heavy.

I`ll dig out the photo`s I have of the various stages, the most difficult part is the timber preparation, if you havnt got the tools to do it yourself a timber merchant might do it for you.

Basic principle is decide how many pieces you want around the outside, the more you have the rounder the pot will look. Calculation 360 degrees / say 24 pieces = 15 degrees / 2 side of each piece = 7.5 degrees slope on each side. Join them with a dowel / biscuit or screw jig and you end up with a barrel.

I post pics later.

top notch joinery Sir.

Exceptional work

Awesome work there. I now kind of wish I'm not just about to take delivery of a 80litre thermo pot

That is amazing. Though I like all things shiney, something clad in oak is something else. :thumb: :thumb:

Does the oak add much in the way of insulation?

Not too sure but the second pot with the brass rings is made out of 32mm thick, I had originally made enough staves for two pots of the same size, then found the 150ltr so had to extend this staves + plan down the oak on that pot to approx. 20mm thick in order to increase the internal dimension, if the makes sense? I would have to look up the thermo co eff thingy of Oak.

Anyway cheers all for the comments.
