Hi all,
Thought to share this to help someone else avoid suffering. I have a king keg. I had friends over and it was just about finished. I left if for a couple of weeks but then wanted to put a new brew in. Didnt finish the last bit at the bottom. It was pressurised with a co2 bulb.

I unscrewed the cap.......

Hmmmmm......yes the beer is finished but............

First you should release the pressure. That way the cap does not explode off with your face a foot from a metal screw thread. Lucky I didnt loose my eye. But nice cut just above it.

Stupid and careless... hope this helps. The cap now has a sticker.....release pressure before unscrewing!

Cheers all.

I don't quite understand. You had a fully pressured KK, removed the lid before releasing pressure from the tap, and it attacked you? I'm missing something, but surely as you unscrew the lid, pressure will be released gradually, anyway.

I thought the same, pleased the OP is ok but from my experience as soon as the seal is broken as you start to unscrew the lid the pressure will be released before you can unscrew the lid enough for it pop-off into your face.

Maybe we misunderstand which bit was unscrewed ?

Oddly on Sunday I was emptying a third full top tap pb, took the lid off and the transparent bit of the float shot off like a bullet. Came right out of the barrel and flew across the room. Didn't go anywhere near hitting me, but I have no idea how or why it did it.

Sounds like you have a beer poltergeist, I have one of those, my beer never lasts as long as it should - somebody, or something else must be drinking it

It was the black screw cap. Yep the seal broke, gas started to escape but as I was pushing hard with my thumbs having been swearing at it for 5 minutes, the cap continued to unscrew....only a bit...bang.

Next time I'll engage brain.
