I know Cumbria is not famed for good weather, but yesterday was a rare exception and was bright, sunny and warm. I was heading south on the M6 just past Carlisle. Bright blue sky, 15c at 9 am with excellent visibility. When I came upon a gritter in the middle lane spreading SALT. Now we are talking 4 June at 9 am not 4 Jan. Do they know something we don't?

Maybe the council is selling them off now that winter is over and it was a prospective buyer taking it on a test drive.

i like your reasoning lol !!

 or maybe getting rid of stock so they don't cut their budget next year. I can't think of any reason why you would salt the road on a warm day, unless it stops the tarmac melting. But I am prepared to be enlightened.

Maybe he was following the pepper truck? ;)

was he salting or just travelling down the road, or had he say something like sand instead of salt for a specific purpose...

Theres no earthly reason they should be salting at this time of year. Perhaps a little e mail to your local council could enlighten us all, ( and embarrass them also... )
