Secondary fermentation

Last week I made a Kolsch and now the fermentation is done I move the Kolsch to a new FV and crash cool for 5 days at 1c.

My question is do you have to move the Kolsch to a new FV when crash cooling or can you crash cool using the same FV that the fermentation took place in, even though the yeast sediment is at the bottom.

Same FV for me with a kolsch, I do transfer dry hopped brews because I'm never in a rush and I prefer minimal sediment in my bottles, I don't keg, no room indoors for storage.

I crash mine in the same fv,even with a bag of hops.

Thank you for the replies, can you keep it in the same FV when you crash ales also.

I never do secondary anymore and my beers are in the FV for 3 to 4 weeks.

I don't do secondary either, ferment out and crash!

It seems to me that there's no hard and fast 'rule' about whether you should transfer to a second FV before you package with or without crash cooling and/or hops. There are advantages and disadvantages in both methods. Some folks do and others don't. It's down to personal preference and perceptions of what's best. So for me sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.
