When I used to homebrew in the eighties some of the kits used to recommend skimming the scummy head that develops on a fermenting brew after a few days,not letting it sink in.
This doesn't seem to be mentioned anymore , is it a practice that has fallen out of favour?

usually you get a foamy head then a scummy ring around the fv, aslong as ur gear is sterlised properly then no need to go in farting about skimming stuff, its another way for infection to get in, im a lazy get, my method is set, and forget for 2 weeks!
