Third time brewing this delightful beer.

5110g Marris Otter
900g Crystal Malt

31g Fuggles - 60 min
26g East Kent Goldings - 60-min
19g Fuggles - 10 min

OG: 1057, FG: 1012, ABV: 5.91, IBU: 31.22

Finally managed to understand my equipment and compensated for the drop in temperature of the grains which is about 9 Celsius. As you can see it was dead on 66 after doughing in the grains. The final volume was almost dead on 23 litres and just a little experience makes such a big difference. The amber nectar you see at the end is one I prepared earlier, isn't it gorgeous! Sarah Hughes, for those about to quaff, we salute you!

Looks fantastic! It's on my short list for my AG#2 and I have all the ingredients to hand.

One of my favourite beers is a St. Peters Ruby Red Ale (available from some Tesco's). Is it anything at all like this? Along the same lines? Maybe similar to Hobgoblin or McEwan's red ales?

In picture no.3, that looks like some kind of hop sock. Is it just a normal biab/paint strainer bag? I have pellets, which are a pain, and am looking to keep them separate some how.

Yes it is Steve, absolutely gorgeous and so simple. I think it comes from an epoch when milds were all the rage, perhaps before the first world war after which (due to the scarcity of grain) they took on a slightly weaker character. I just love the idea of brewing Ales from yesteryear, its like folk legend! :D

Its a truly beautiful beer Steve, and it comes in at almost 6 percent but you would never know it. I have tasted Hobgoblin and I think this is a little sweeter, not as sweet as say an Old Jock or something like that, but very drinkable. Yeah the bag is my nylon bag, I use it for my hops as well. It never touches the elements because the convection currents from the boil keeps it away from them, although I take the extra precaution of covering the elements anyway :drunk:
