In case of bottle bombs of course...I can't leave them in my garage/conservatory because they'll be too cool, but where can I put them, or what can I put them in, to hopefully be able to easily mop up any potential accidents? I'm thinking of maybe wrapping them in old towels as I only have about 16 bottles...

I'm worried because the bottles have been out in a mild frost, so could have damaged them... Probably no more than chilling really, but I assume they're relatively fragile...

Well , the standard protection against windowglass shrapnell is voluminous net curtains , so maybe your blankets are the right idea . Just dont snuggle up with them . Because you will spoil the condition of the beer

I have always assumed they're pretty tough.

As Steve says, if you don't bottle too soon, check that you've got a stable FG for 2-3 days and don't over-prime, bottle bombs should never be a worry.

I only prime at half a tsp to the pint and then mine always get 4-7 days on the kitchen worktop before going into storage. Fortunately, I've got a cellar which stays around 12°C ±2° all year round. Touch wood, I have never had a bottle bomb, and I've used hundreds.

When you bottle, always use at least one 500ml plastic pop bottle, then you can feel by squeezing that one how your carbonation is developing.

This is noprob. As everybody else in the thread mentioned; If the fermenting is completely done, its totally safe to bottle it. What you can do if you are unsure about the bottles quality, is to put all the bottles in one of those large black garbage bags, and then put that bag into another large black garbage bag.

Then obtain one of these:

And putt the bottles wrapped in 2 layers of garbage bags in it. If a bottle explodes, it wont penetrate the bags, and you will just get some leaking out of the bag. This will be trapped in the plastic tub thingie.
